His expertise includes motion preservation surgery, minimally invasive procedures, degenerative conditions, and complex revision spinal surgery. Nonsurgical and surgical treatment options are provided for patients in all segments of the spine for symptom improvement, with meticulous treatment plan formulations involving considerations from a 360 degree approach for short hospital stays and quick recoveries. Particularly in the setting of the pandemic, he is focused on outpatient surgical intervention when applicable to return patients home to their families safely. His mantra maintains to treat every one of his patients as if they are a member of his own family.  

Dr. Ghasem has published several manuscripts and is a leader in the fields of robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery. As a thought leader in the newest surgical technologies, he has authored articles in several of the premier journals not limited to Spine, Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS), International Journal of Spine Surgery (IJSS), Clinical Orthopaedic Related Research (CORR), and World Neurosurgery, among a multitude of others. His work has been presented at several research conferences and he has delivered a number of educational lectures and podium presentations. His most recent research publications have been centered around his interest in spinal procedural pricing, healthcare accessibility, and system-based quality improvement.

Background

Dr. Ghasem joins us in the state of California from his home state of Kentucky where he was selected as a Governor’s scholar to attend the University of Kentucky’s combined B.S./M.D. 7-year medical program out of high school on a full academic scholarship. After 3 years, he graduated summa cum laude and attended Emory University School of Medicine where he became the president of his class and was awarded a partial scholarship and several leadership accolades including the coveted Evangeline Papageorge Leadership Award. Subsequently, Dr. Ghasem completed his orthopedic surgery residency at one of the largest hospital systems in the country at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Health System where he was elected to serve as the Administrative Chief Resident in his final year. There he developed a strong affinity for spinal surgery founded in strong mentorship, the cerebral nature of the field, and the gratification of expedient patient improvement. He then returned to Atlanta to complete the internationally-revered degenerative and minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship at Emory University where he received the top technical training in the country prior to joining his family and building his practice here in the city of Los Angeles, CA.
